Shaft Blanks First Turn 30" x 1"

Shaft Blanks First Turn 30" x 1"

Canadian Hard Rock Maple Shaft Blanks – First Cut (Square to Round)

These first-cut shaft blanks are turned in-house from square stock to a true round—the essential first step in transforming raw maple into a precision cue shaft. Each blank measures 30" in length (typically about ⅛" longer) and is cut to a diameter of 1.000" ± .010", giving cue makers an ideal starting point for rough machining, future taper work, or continued seasoning.

Crafted from premium Canadian Hard Rock Maple, each blank is hand-selected for straight grain, structural integrity, and dependable performance. These are true cue-grade starting blanks—not generic dowels—intended for serious builders who want control over every stage of shaft development.

Seasoned for Stability

After being turned from square to round, every blank undergoes a minimum 6-week controlled-environment seasoning cycle.
This period allows the wood to relax, release minor internal stress, and stabilize after the initial cut. The result is a blank that trues up cleanly and responds predictably during future machining.

Material & Characteristics

  • Wood: Canadian Hard Rock Maple

  • Length: 30" (often 30.125")

  • Diameter: 1.000" ± .010"

  • Seasoning: Minimum 6 weeks in a controlled environment

  • Grain Count: Typically 14–18 (natural variation applies)

These blanks are ideal for cue makers who want to establish their own tapers, pull material aside for long-term seasoning, or begin the early stages of shaft production.

Made 100% In-House

All machining is performed inside Billiards Innovations, LLC, starting from raw square stock and never outsourced. This ensures consistent quality, precise tolerances, and full control over each blank produced.

Due to strict selection standards and high demand, first-cut stock is limited and often sells quickly.

Disclaimer

Minor mineral deposits may be present; these are a natural characteristic of Hard Rock Maple. They will not be present within the front 2/3 of the blank and do not affect performance, structural integrity, or the final playability of the cue.

Because these blanks are natural wood, moving them from one shop, climate, or region to another may result in slight linear movement or mild shifting. This is completely normal—even with controlled-seasoned maple. After taking a light cleanup pass, there will be more than enough remaining diameter to true the blank and produce a stable, high-quality shaft.
