Our 18-inch Canadian Maple coring dowels are prepared specifically for cue makers who need a clean, stable, and dependable core material for both forearm and handle construction. Each dowel is made from quality Canadian Maple and measures roughly 1 inch in diameter, giving the builder usable material for fitting, turning, and proper glue clearance during the coring process.
 
At Billiards Innovations, LLC, these dowels go through our in-house stress relief process before being offered for sale. Stress relieving is done by removing material from the maple in controlled stages rather than forcing the dowel straight to final size all at once. As the wood is reduced, any internal tension has a chance to show itself through slight movement, bending, or settling. The dowels are then allowed to rest before additional material is removed. This staged process helps the maple stabilize before it is used as the internal core of a cue.
 
The purpose of stress relieving is not to make wood “movement proof,” because wood is still a natural material. Instead, the goal is to remove unstable material, expose hidden tension early, and allow the dowel to settle before installation. This helps reduce the chance of unwanted movement after the dowel has been glued inside a forearm or handle.
